Try to have an empty drawer or cabinet in each of your rooms. This way, when you need to tidy up quickly and don't have time to properly organize the things that have accumulated on your counters, you can slip them in this "back up" drawer. Remember to allot time in the next week (put it on your calendar) to organize those things into their proper homes so that you again have an empty drawer. Having a junk drawer in each room is NOT the goal!!!
I like to use a desk organizer for a completely different reason than Staples thad in mind when I bought it there! I keep my pot lids, cutting boards and cookie sheets upright in the various sections to keep them organized. Makes great use of the space, and I am not stacking things, which is alwys a pain when you need whatever is on the bottom! Works like a charm!
I find losing the screw in my glasses frames used to happen far too often.
Clear nail polish can help out! Tighten the screw and then add a tiny bit of clear polish to keep this from happening again.
In keeping yourself organized, it is important to keep what is in your purse or wallet organized as well. Take an inventory to keep at home of everything in your wallet, in the unlikely event it is stolen. Keep the list somewhere safe at home. Also, take out of your wallet any credit cards you don't use regularly. It might be wise to only carry one or two. What else can you get rid of in there that you never use?
It seems those grocery bags can come in handy for reuse, but the question comes up--where to put them so they don't take up much valuable space...
I like to put mine in an old tissue box and just pluck one out each time I need it. Keeps them in one place and out of the way!
Some days we can just get overwhelmed a bit with projects at the desk and find a mess of papers in front of us several hours later. Every clients works differently, but most find it helpful to take all that paper in front of you, put it in a pile and one by one process each piece of paper. That means it either gets ditched, filed or acted upon. Doing this before the end of the day means that you will be greeted the following morning with a clear desk to begin your new day.
Before the summer arrives, you may want to think about getting your garage decluttered and organized. Once it is hot, hot, hot, we in Orlando sure don't want a whole day of clearing everything outside, purging thru and replacing what you are keeping back into the garage in an organized manner. This is one of the most time consuming jobs, since you really need to keep at it, as you don't want to leave your things outside overnight. One client had a three-car garage, so it would have been impossible to the full job in one 12 hour day. She solved that problem by getting a Pod and putting items inside it which she would eventually place back into a permanent home within the garage. That was really thinkin'!
Be sure to purge thru your spices at least once a year. Ditch any that you don't use and replace those that have expired, if you still use that one. Keep your spices in alpha order, making it easy to locate the one you need quickly. I like using a Lazy Susan to get a full view easily of all my spices. Give it a try. Each step towards organization adds calm to your life. And could' t we all use less stress?
As spring moves into summer, this is a great time to do some decluttering. Remember first the definition of clutter--anything that doesn't serve a purpose or bring you great joy-- and then also remember to start with a small area so you can see results and be more motivated to move on. No time like the the present to start...and keep going! You will find calm entering your life.
