Expired Meds don't belong in your medicine cabinet. Every six months or so, go through all your prescription and over the counter meds, vitamins and minerals. Be sure to dispose of properly. According to the Food and Drug Administration, "A growing number of community-based drug "take-back" programs offer the best option. Otherwise, almost all medicines can be thrown in the household trash, but only after consumers take the precautionary steps..." such as taking off the entire label or fully scratch out identifying information and mixing the drugs with kitty litter or coffee grounds to make them unappealing. Place this mixture into a sealable bag to prevent the drug from leaking from the garbage bag. You can even take the label off the prescription items, stick it to a scratch piece of paper, or fold it over to stick it to itself and shred it! You'll be making more room in your medicine cabinet and getting rid of those items that have expired and you wouldn't take anyway!
