I loved an idea a recent client shared with me, and I asked if I could pass it along to you.  Thankfully she agreed, since I would hate for you to miss out on this great tip.

Before going out shopping for something, she does what she calls "Shopping at Home."  Let's say she needs something to go with her new slacks.  Before going out to buy something, she carefully looks through what she has to determine if she already has something that will work, instead of adding more to her closet.  What about a gift for Aunt Ellen?  She has put aside duplicates of new items she has bought or been given and surveys those first to see if something there might fit this occasion.  (Be sure if you set aside a gift to "regift" later to use a post-it to note for marking who gave you that item so you don't put your foot in your mouth by giving it back to that same person!)  What if you need more tape for gift wrapping or at your desk when your roll runs out?  Check where you keep extra office supplies first before running out for it.  If you are using the last of your back-ups, add it to your list for whenever you are shopping anyway.

Isn't this a great idea?  I even like what she calls it--Shopping at Home!
